Barack Obama's Speech Given Last Night

"That is why jobs must be our No 1 focus in 2010, and that is why I am calling for a new jobs bill tonight," he said.

The President said he "hated" bailing out Wall Street banks during his first year in office but it had been necessary to prevent a meltdown of the financial system. He proposed that $US30 billion ($33bn) of money repaid by Wall Street banks should be used to help community banks give credit to endangered small businesses. He backed a tax credit for small businesses that hired new workers, and the elimination of capital gains tax on small-business investment.

Mr Obama repeatedly challenged Republican opponents to reconsider after they used their numbers in the Senate to block health legislation and threatened to stymie bills on climate change and financial regulation. He urged panicked Democrats in congress to "not run for the hills".

He talked up the benefits of last year's $US787bn economic stimulus package and continued support for health and climate change legislation, new family tax credits for university education and a boost in support for war veterans. --> Thoughts?

I feel that obama is playing with the hand that he was dealt. He came into office at a time when the nation was in a crisis and now he is trying to dig them out. He also is trying to help other countries who r in crisis such as Hati. I feel that he is doing a good job with the hand that he was dealt. And it may bother him to have to dail out all the corparation because they should have been more focused on there businesses

We have to blend our music with Obama's messages. If not in our music just in our blogs and our twitters. Just to keep our fans aware of what is going on. We got him in there but we can't leave him and let the cabinet eat him alive. We have to know what is going on so we have a voice and can be a witness. Appreciate that Shad!

I thought the speech was good and my favorite part of the speech was "the best anti poverty education around is a world class education" oh and he had me at pay 10% of your salary towards your student loans. Go Obama.. education and healthcare were the highlights of the night oh of course the economy... @87Carpe_Diem

Obama's SOTU was absolutely wonderful. I watched the entire speech and i feel he did a great job. I feel like Obama kept it all the way real, as he generally does. He said "Let's try common sence." Everything Obama said, i feel, all the representitives already knew but are too ignorant to accept anything Obama feels is right for this country. It hurts to know that the Senate (which we know is ran by republicans) won't do what they know is right simply because they refuse to agree with Obama in any way, shape, or from. It's ridiculous, we are a long way from chnage if our president doesn't get any support. We have to step up black people!

I watched most of his speech I found it very interesting. Republican members of the house have made it clear that they dont have the same interest at all when it come to the dems and the Prez. Seems to me that the Prez wanted to make it clear that he no longer wants the divison of repub and dem to be s0o severe in Washington. People complain about the deficit butits amazing how we s0o quickly forget the mess our former leader put us in. I hav faith that President Obama will get back to the old ways that created a surplus under the Clinton Administration, yet that would surely take two terms. Lets hope Americans keep their faith, three yrs will be over before we know it....***

I honestly think that no actual common supported action will be taken until the Republicans feel that it will in some way hinder them because as of right now it is not going to happen. President Obama (please refer to him by this for he has earned this title) can talk till he is blue and they are not going to budge. What he needs to do is not give up because there are going to be alot of people that are around him (Democrats) that are going to give up! To actually think that he was going to be able to make a change in one year is ludicrous. Because the fact is, we have been drowning for more than eight years! THAT IS CORREECT! Our downward spiral goes back to when Clinton Administration. For it was President Clinton who passed law (can't think of the name right now) that allowed for companies to sent their businesses overseas avoiding taxing and paying and training foreigners to do the job. For example, if you were to call Dell or even to help set up your wireless, you would probably be talking to an eastern representative (Indian or what have you). Those are jobs going away as well as taxed money to flow back into the economy. On top of that, we have had 3 major devastations that have hindered us tremendously; 911 (which will be a decade next year), that hurricane/tsunami in Asia, and of course Hurricane Katrina and lets not forget our new issue Haiti. All these events go to show you how much money we have been putting out that we dont necessarily have. Billions for 911 clean and unnecessary war, millions to Asia, thousands to Hurricane Katrina (so sad and its within our own damn boundaries), and Haiti in the millions. Where the hell is that money coming from???? Lets talk about these loans. It is no doubt that within the past two decades the American Dream has been at its highest (more middle-class families with homes, jobs, and education). This dream has been reached by loans… Loans for your house, loans for your education, and etc. However, no one really put a cap on it and for this reason bank have had to be bailed out because they were giving out more than they had. This was all well happening within the Clinton Administration and the Bush Administration didnt make it any better. It has only been one year. The message that he used to get us is the message that we need to use to help him HOPE. We need to put pressure on the Republican Party and HOPE they come around. THAT IS ALL!

I defintely think that Obama hit some key points. Mostly i think he reminded the people that he can only do so much. Checks and balances is the real thing that is holding back REAL change. It seemed that speech last night wasnt so much the state of our "union" but Obama begging for help the stiff pricks in the Senate who have had their seat for it seems like 100 years.

I think he did good he touched on a lot of things I wanted to know about. I am happy to see young people talking about this.

I think that its amazing how our President is handling himsself in office. Basically, he's doing what we need him to...lead us out of this depression (notice I did not say recession). By being candid and blunt about the issues and the solutions I think Obama will be able to succeed in all the ventures he promised during his campaign...will he be able to do it one term?...I doubt it, but I think to inherit 8 years of idiocracy that 8 years of common sense should be allowed. The state of the union is just an outline of better things to come, hopefully! :-)

Personally, I do not think Obama is having a successful presidency at all. He hasn't done anything he promised during his campaign. I can't take anything he says as true because of the lies he's told already. He said he was gonna pull out the troops right away, then he said by the end of 2010, now he says maybe by the end of his term. One thing I can't stand is he keeps blaming the passed administrations. Even after a year he can't own up to anything. A year later it's no longer anything to do with the past adminstration.

Thanks, Peace! 2012 can't wait!

I've been reading through other peoples comments saying how they think it's amazing how he's handling himself in the office. Are you kidding me? Do you not know anything that's going on in D.C.?

I was reading Daniels post. Sounds like the only reason he voted for the president was because he's black. Awesome! Good job!

I feel like it's up too us the people to bring change in this world not just the United States. We need to stop putting all our trust and faith in the leaders of the world and find the leadership within our selves.

Nothing is going to change until us the people change! Change the way we live, think, and treat each other . Instead of putting down and stumping a person when they fall, reach out your hand and be the one to lift them back up. We are all the sum of our experinces. We are who we are as a result of them for better or for worse. What matters most is how we grow as people. And what we do individually to make the world a better place.

I really dont understand most of these celebs and people higher up in the society who have so much power and influence over the people but rather use it for selfish gain and greed.

I voted for Obama I want say I wish I never voted for him. I just wish I never voted period. Because at the end of the day the government will do what they want to do. They will continue to do the deed that was already set forth and designed thousands of years ago from their ancestors. It's all about money in their eye's and they use FEAR to control us. They call it ORDER OUT OF KAUS" to keep us mentally and physically in this 3D MATRIX ILLUSION were living in.

BUT WISDOM SHE'S SPEAKING. SHE'S WAKING EVERYBODY UP SLOWLY BUT SHOWLY. AND IN THE NEAR FUTURE THE WORLD WILL KNOW THE TRUTH. THE BIG QUESTION IS WHO WILL BELIEVE THE TRUTH WHEN IT'S RIGHT THEIR IN YOUR FACES?!!!
